Missions

Every Monday at 6:30 pm our group goes out into the homeless community and serves more than eighty men and women in downtown Portland.
Our Primary purpose is to show our brothers and sisters, who are homeless, that they are loved by God and others. We know that with your help, we can truly make a difference and a change in our community. Your participation can come in the form of donated clothing, shoes, new socks, blankets, sleeping bags, personal hygiene items or food items for sandwiches and your donation can be dropped off or picked up.
If you would like to come alongside us in any way, please contact John Dominguez at (503) 268-2558 or John@mybrotherskeeper-necf.org.
(We model our love for one another after the love God shows us)
Proverbs 21:13 Whoever shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will also cry himself and not be heard.
Our Mission Statement:
- To humbly serve as ambassadors for Christ in our community.
- To share Christ’s love with the lost and forgotten people in the city of Portland.
- To see minds renewed, strongholds broken, lives changed and souls saved.
On the 3rd Saturday of each month at 5:30 pm, The Portland Rescue Mission Ministry Team meets at the Burnside Shelter. We serve dinner, provide dining room support and talk with guests. During this time, we are able to spend one on one time getting to know their story.
After dinner, the team gathers in the chapel and ministers to the rescue mission guests through music, a short message from the Word of God or personal testimony. We believe that when physical needs are met, (like food) it opens up the heart to receive spiritual needs. Our desire is to make Jesus Christ real and relevant through being open and honest about ourselves, our faults, our salvation and our redemption.
Ministry Date: The 3rd Saturday of every month
Service Time: 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm (during summer months only)
5:30 pm – 8:00 pm (all other months)

“How can I eat, when I know you are hungry? How can I drink, when I know you are thirsty?” Paul said it another way: “Woe is me if I don’t preach the Gospel.” That has been Rico’s heart ever since he came to Jesus on July 12, 1972. Those fires propelled him to Bible Training at Multnomah School of the Bible. He graduated in 1978. During those years, he ran an Evangelistic Outreach Team on the streets of Portland. He then went to Canon Beach, Oregon, where he ran an Evangelist Hotel for three summers. After that he went to Sardegna to Minister the Gospel under the Worldwide Evangelization Crusade. In June of 2009, after being laid off from his lucrative full-time job, the Lord led Jeri and Rico to agree that he would devote himself, full-time to Evangelism. Rico started ministering daily on the streets of Portland.
Jeri joined Rico in Hawaii to minister to the homeless of Waikiki Beach. Then in September of 2009, Jeri and Rico went to Naples, Italy where they ministered to Neapolitans in conjunction with the efforts put forth by Pastor Valenzuela and his church. Presently, after three previous missionary trips to Jamaica, one of which together Jeri and Rico are now ministering in Kingston. Jeri is ministering to young and older women. Jeri’s heart, her openness, her magnetic personality, and her love for Jesus, make her a magnet for these young and older ladies, who simply have nobody else to love on them like that.
Rico is ministering to young men and to his “congregation”, the people he meets in the streets on his daily walks in Kingston, and in some of the rougher areas of town. The Lord has greatly used both of them and is unfolding further details, as they have moved to Kingston to live and are minister there full time.

Mike Watson heard the call to minister to Jamaica after a vacation on the beautiful island in 2002. In August of 2006, Mike and Alice uprooted from their Portland, Oregon home and landscape business to fulfill the call they had received to minister to the people of that beautiful land. Their mission was to let Jamaica know that Jesus is in love with the people there and to encourage the people to open their hearts to the love of Jesus! They take strength in knowing that they were sent by The King to serve and minister to His children in that region.and to let them know that the Spirit of the Lord is upon Jamaica, for healing and to set the captives free.
The Watsons can be reached through their U.S. address at P.O. Box 17306, Portland, OR 97217.

In April, 1977, Pastor Gracias Savain and Brother Joseph Eliazard invited Sister Liz Proctor to Nan Colo for a wedding. The wedding was held in a dilapidated, mud hut church building.
She could not help but notice the bright-eyed and smiling-faced children in the churchyard. It was as if her presence brought hope to a physically and spiritually despaired community – a community that was poor, illiterate, undernourished and untouched. Liz asked, “Where is their school?” The reply was, “They don’t have a school.” At that very moment, Sister Proctor envisioned the Community Training Center.
Sister Liz recalls, “On September 24, 1978, I was still overwhelmed by the vision. I was staying in Nan Colo, living with the people in their homes and sharing their lifestyle. I had a vision of what God could do in Nan Colo and committed myself to seeing the vision materialize.”
Role in the Rural Community
Haiti Evangelism and Education Ministry sees itself as part of the positive change in the community. A basic level education is offered to a population previously hindered by social and economical realities. The ministry offers the spiritual dynamics that are fundamental to lasting social change.
Today the Community Training Center at Nan Colo consists of eight buildings that include: a church, eight classrooms, a kitchen, two offices, a mission house (A new house is currently under construction), teacher’s dormitory, sewing center, outdoor toilets, and two storage rooms.
The School and Sewing Center provides regular jobs for nine teachers; two administration persons; six kitchen workers; three janitors; two yard persons; one monitor; one aide for preschoolers; one person to transport monthly food and other supplies; six to twelve occasional workers for transporting large food and other supplies; one person for the mission house; and an occasional repair person.
This employment raises the economic level of the whole community while it prepares young people for higher education and better jobs than would otherwise be possible.
